Reportedly, Liebherr applied too much pressure on Cortese to sell big players at the club, and this unambitious act would inevitably be revolted by Cortese, who has helped build the club to the current massive stage.

Shaw has been one of the standout performers in the squad, and has impressed a number of top Premier League clubs. Cortese was one of the main reasons for manager Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at the club, and his departure could lead to a squad crisis simultaneously. Shaw’s defensive displays have kept Southampton in the running for a European qualification, and his loss will be felt in the squad. Chelsea could make use of the situation and bid for Shaw at a bargain rate looking at the condition of the Southampton board room.
