Chelsea are looking to bring back some players who have been loaned out possibly because of Benitez. As the Spaniard’s contract is coming to an end at the same time with this Premier League season, one of the Blues’ best players, Essien will return to Stamford Bridge. With rumors that link Real Madrid’s current coach to Chelsea, it is more than likely that the 30 year old midfielder will leave Spain and return to the UK. Even with his excellent performances for Real, he did not manage to become a regular in Mourinho’s first eleven.

Essien has managed to appear in almost 30 fixtures this season, but is still not certain that the management team from Bernabeu will offer him a permanent deal, especially considering he is much older than his competition there. The Ghanaian will have a hard time returning as a team regular for Chelsea as he has missed an entire year. The Blues have managed to establish some good playing chemistry that will more than likely only be improved upon next season.

Essien is playing a similar position to Obi Mikel and Ramires, who both have managed some great performances this season. He could return to Stamford Bridge as an alternative?

The Ghanaian recently spoke about what his perspectives are and how he feels about returning to Chelsea. He said that he is happy with his time spent with Real and that this is not yet a closed chapter in his life. Essien is still a very good player who has a lot to offer, he has just had some really bad luck with injuries in recent seasons with the Blues.

Essien has been with Chelsea since 2005. He has managed 163 appearances and 17 goals. Even if he was not the most efficient when it came to scoring, he managed some important and impressive goals that helped his team to win big trophies.
