Chelsea To Battle Man United For Southampton’s Shaw

The 18-year-old, Luke Shaw has been in prime form for the Saints this season, and it seems that his talent hasn’t gone unnoticed with the bigwigs of the Premier League interested in his services. The England youth international is a technically gifted left-back who can bomb on from the left and his attacking displays for Southampton have really caught the eye this season not to mention his performance on Tuesday night which helped hold Arsenal to a 2-2 draw..

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in securing his signature. The Blues are on the lookout for a new left-back after England’s first-choice left-back has fallen out of favour with Mourinho. The former Real Madrid manager has chosen to play a right-sided player at left-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta ousting Ashley Cole in Chelsea’s first-team.

Ryan Bertrand has also fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge and has joined Aston Villa on loan till the end of the season to get some match time. This has led to Mourinho targeting a move for Shaw, but Southampton are not interested in selling their prized asset.

Southampton chairman Katharina Liebherr said, “The club has no plans to sell any of the squad during the January transfer window. The manager and the team have my full support.”

The Saints are also slapping a hefty £30 million price on Shaw, who is also being targeted by David Moyes. After completing the capture of Mata for a club-record fee, Moyes has turned his attention on the left-back position and has lodged an initial £22.5 million bid for Shaw. I guess we shall see what happens…
