REPORT: Chelsea Transfer Target ‘Not Enthused’ Regarding Move To Club

Chelsea are interested in a transfer move for Southampton full-back Tino Livramento – but the player himself is ‘not particularly enthused’ in the idea of a move to Stamford Bridge, according to journalist Ben Jacobs on the NUFC Matters Podcast [via YouTube].

On the podcast, Jacobs said: “Chelsea were considering buying him back because they’ve got a buy-back option, but Livramento was not particularly enthused by that because the logic was that he would be bought by Chelsea and then loaned back to Southampton.

“I don’t think anything got particularly serious with those talks, but it shows Livramento didn’t really want to be bought and loaned back because he would feel like a commodity. Also, there aren’t many pathways on the right or left-hand sides at Chelsea.”

Who else, besides Chelsea, are interested in a move for Tino Livramento?

Besides Chelsea, Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Livramento over the last few months. Currently, the Toon seem to be leading the race for the 20-year-old’s signature.

Newcastle can offer Livramento something that Chelsea cannot next season – Champions League football. In the long run, this can be a massive factor when it comes to who a player will decide to ultimately sign for.

Would Tino Livramento be a good signing for the Blues?

With the loss of Cesar Azpilicueta, who left the club after 11 years to join Atletico Madrid in the summer, Chelsea are in need of a top-quality – not to mention adaptable – full-back.

While Azpilicueta in nearing the end of his career, he could still do a job at right-back, left-back and centre-back – he was a brilliant defensive utility player and Chelsea must find an adequate replacement.

While Livramento is too diminutive to play at centre-half, he is more than capable of playing at both right-back and left-back. With the pending arrival of Axel Disasi, the Blues do not need cover at centre-back – therefore, Livramento would have been an ideal signing.

With this being said, Livramento is not perfect – not only is he injury-prone, his youth could indicate that he is not ready for first-team football at the highest level.
