Chelsea Through To The Champions League Knockouts

Chelsea Through To The Champions League Knockouts

It`s been a while since fans saw Chelsea play well. Last night the entire team seemed well-motivated and focused, especially up front. Hazard looked like he might be coming back and Costa showed he could be over the spat with Mourinho. The best news about last night is not that Chelsea made it to the knockout phases but rather that they managed to look like a team. They also managed some good personal performances from players who have not been meeting expectations this season.

Despite the fact that Chelsea’s first goal game from one of Porto’s defenders who was in the wrong place at the wrong time, the team is still worth applauding. It was a decisive match against a strong Portuguese side that looked to leave Chelsea home and take their spot in the knockouts. Porto was not given too much room to stand out and was denied some decent chances by Courtois who looks to be slowly getting back to the form he showed before the injury. His contribution to last night’s win was undeniable just as Hazard’s contribution was. The two Belgian internationals were key elements in helping the Blues qualify which is great news.

Willian is also worth mentioning after managing to score his first goal outside of a set-piece. Assisted perfectly by Hazard, the Brazilian had no mercy in front of Casillas. Chelsea finish the group first and have the opportunity to go past the first knockout phase as teams like Gent, Benfica or PSV represent possible future adversaries. Hopefully by the beginning of the next stage, The Blues will not care who they face as other possible adversaries include PSG, Juventus and Roma.
