Chelsea Targeting Italian Goal Machine

Chelsea Targeting Italian Goal Machine

Jose Mourinho is scouting a new threat in front of goal after the profligacy shown by his forwards in front of goal this season. Remarkably, only 2 out of 16 league goals have been scored by the Blues strikers, one each for Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres.

It is no secret that Mourinho tried to lure Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to London this past summer after former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that Rooney had asked to leave. The Red Devils ultimately rejected two bids from the Blues and have made it clear that he would not be sold to a title rival.

With Mourinho unlikely to pursue Rooney in January, he has been looking at alternative targets to supplement Fernando Torres up front. The former Liverpool striker has looked rejuvenated as of late, but Mourinho still wants a new threat up front.

According to Metro, the former Real Madrid manager has turned his attention towards the Dutch Eredivisie, where Pelle has been in amazing goal scoring touch for Feyenoord.

The 6’4” striker has been in stupendous form for the Dutch outfit and has scored 10 goals in 10 games this season. This is his first season as Feyenoord player, although he spent last season on loan at the club where he blasted 27 goals in 29 matches in order to secure a permanent switch.

His goal scoring form has seen him become the best Italian goal scorer outside of Serie A – he recently overtook Luca Toni of Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid’ Christian Vieri. The report suggests that the Blues are preparing a £6 million bid for his services in January.

However, they may have to battle with Spanish giants Barcelona who are also monitoring the 28-year-old. Chelsea may be the preferred option for Pelle since he may get more opportunities at the Bridge than Nou Camp.
