Chelsea Target Godin Set To Stay With Atletico

The Atletico Madrid captain is being targeted by Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal in the January transfer window. The 28-year-old has impressed in a central defence role for the Spanish side since joining in 2010, and has gone on to win four major trophies with the club, including the La Liga title last season.

Mourinho was keen to sign another Atletico player, after snapping up Diego Costa and Felipe Luis, but will have to look elsewhere as Godin wants to stay at the Vicente Calderon for many more years to come.

According to Daily Star, he said, “At this point, I feel that I’m in the best time of my career and I still see my retirement very far. I would like to stay many years here. But it is true that I also have an attraction from my country and at any point in the future I would like to return to Uruguay, to respond to the love they have showed me during this years.”

“But just the time will say. It is difficult to know where I will be playing in as many years.”
