Chelsea Talisman’s Exit Could Happen ‘In A Matter Of Days’ With 30M Rated Bundesliga Star Lined Up As ‘Replacement’

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta could seal his move to Barcelona “in a matter of days” according to Sport.

The Catalan newspaper reports that, although the Blues want the 32-year-old to stay at Stamford Bridge, the player has made up his mind to leave.

There is now a reluctant acceptance that Azpilicueta will get his move, but Thomas Tuchel’s side are believed to be keen to have a “replacement” brought in before sanctioning the Spaniard’s sale.

Sport claims that Chelsea’s “number one” target is RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol as he can play both as a centre-back and fullback, much like Azpilicueta.

It has been reported that Leipzig would be reluctant to sell the Croatian international but there are suggestions that the Bundesliga side may agree to offload him if a club offers around €35m (£30m).

Whether there is any truth to this story, we shall have to wait and see. One thing that doesn’t add up is that Gvardiol is left-footed, unlike Azpilicueta, so the 20-year-old wouldn’t be a like-for-like replacement. Sevilla’s Jules Kounde would probably be a much better fit in that regard.
