Chelsea Talisman ‘Torn’ Over Whether To Leave As Club’s Ownership Situation Creates Uncertainty

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is “torn” over whether to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, according to the Daily Express.

The Spaniard has spent ten years at the Blues and he is very settled in London but, uncertainty over the club’s ownership situation and an offer from Barcelona, have muddied the waters.

Azpilicueta’s current deal at Chelsea expires in June and he is worried that agreements reached over a new contract won’t be honoured by the new owner.

There is an option for the Blues to automatically extend the 32-year-old’s stay for another year if he plays a certain number of games, but the player is keen on a longer-term commitment.

Barca have already made an attractive offer to Azpilicueta. The Catalan club are willing to give him a two-year deal, with an option for a further year.

However, the Spanish international’s longstanding association with Chelsea means he may wait to see if he can get a similar proposal once the club’s next owner is in place.
