Chelsea Steal Defender From City

Chelsea are in pole position to land FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, after the Frenchman claimed talks broke down with Manchester City and that he preferred a move to London, according to an ESPNFC report.

The Blues have convinced John Terry to stay at the club at least for another year, and the England legend will once again lead the way under Jose Mourinho next season. Gary Cahill has been ever so consistent in the heart of the defence, and looks all set to lead England’s World Cup defense in Brazil. David Luiz is rumoured to be leaving the club this summer, with a move to either Bayern Munich or Barcelona on the cards. The Brazilian has not settled in one position at Stamford Bridge, and has also played in holding midfield at times. With Nemanja Matic performing at the top of his game, Luiz will no longer have a place in the side, and the club will need a player like Mangala to steady the ship.

Mangala is one of the most established defenders in Europe, and City tried their very best to secure his services this past summer. However, it is clear the French international prefers a move to London, and has confirmed his preference.
