Chelsea Stars Can Power Brazil To World Cup 2014 Success

Brazil certainly showed the world they’re back with a 3-0 victory over Spain in the FIFA Confederations Cup. Two of their key players in this tournament happen to be Chelsea teammates. David Luiz and Oscar showed their skill and maturity in the Brazilian blowout of Spain at Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro Sunday night. Not to mention another Chelsea star, Ramires, who wasn’t fit for the match.

This begs the question as to whether these Blues players can play a pivotal role to leading Brazil back to a World Cup win next summer. Always noted for their dominance in international play, the Brazilians have failed to reach the semi-finals in the past two World Cups after winning it in 2002.

During Sunday’s final, Luiz and Oscar certainly made it clear that Brazil will be a top contender in the tournament, which will be played in Brazil for the first time since 1950. The 26-year-old Luiz showed his increasing maturity as a defender. Along with Thiago Silva, the two provided solidity at the back and made it increasingly more difficult for Spain to create scoring chances throughout. Most notably in the 40th minute with Brazil up 1-0, Luiz made a fantastic goal line clearance that sparked the Brazilians.

Minutes later, Neymar scored for Brazil to make it 2-0. That goal was set up by Oscar, who showed his creativity in attack that he possesses in the Premier League for Chelsea. After keeping Spain on their heels with continuous pressure, he finally broke through and onto the stat sheets in the 44th minute with a beautiful pass to Neymar, who scored with a left-foot shot high beyond the reach of Spanish goaltender Casillas.

The other Chelsea star Ramires, who was not active in the Confederations Cup for Brazil due to injury, will provide another threat to the world next summer. The 26-year-old right-sided midfielder who is known for pace, acceleration, dribbling ability and stamina will pose a problem for many.

These three stars tied in with other factors such as the rise of Neymar and the home advantage will make Brazil a popular pick to win the World Cup, which is now less than a year away.
