Chelsea star set to be offered new deal

Chelsea are reportedly said to be readying a new contract for Brazilian winger Willian, who was close to leaving the club this summer.

Willian was heavily linked with a move away this summer, with Barcelona reportedly tabling two bids and their rivals Real Madrid interested as well as Manchester United.

But as it stands, the forward will be staying put at Stamford Bridge, much to the delight of fans and indeed the club itself.

It was widely understood that Willian was unhappy at the club after a fallout with former manager Antonio Conte, with the Brazilian himself admitting that he would have left the club if not for the Italian’s departure.

However, the 30-year-old has recently admitted that he is happy to stay at the club, and hinted that he is enjoying life under new manager Maurizio Sarri.

Now, the Mirror reports that the Blues are willing to break their club policy by offering the forward a new two-year deal.

Willian’s current deal still has two years left to run, but with growing interest for him it is important that the club tie him down.

Reports claim that he would see his £120,000-a-week wages increased, with his contract being extended until at least 2022.

This would mean breaking the club’s policy of not offering players over the age of 30 a contract extension of over one year, but it’s something they are willing to do in order to fend away potential suitors for him.
