Chelsea Star Makes Clear Statement On His Future Amid Exit Claims

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has revealed he is “very happy” to stay at Stamford Bridge despite the departure of his mentor Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian worked under the former Blues head coach at Napoli before being signed by the London club last summer.

There had been some speculation that Jorginho may follow Sarri out of the exit door but talking about his future, he says he has no intention of moving on:

“Sarri was my manager, he wasn’t my friend. We worked for four years but now this is another time, another chapter in my life.”

“I’m looking forward to it. Sarri left and I stayed and I need to do a job for my team. I have a long contract here, four years, and I am very happy at Chelsea.”

New manager Frank Lampard has already said he is a big fan of the 27-year-old, even saying he has been impressed with the midfielder’s leadership qualities.

Jorginho will have to get used to a new role this campaign, though, with Lampard likely to select him as one of two holding midfielders.

The system change doesn’t seem to have adversely affected the Italian, however, with the midfielder having already struck up a good partnership with Mateo Kovacic during the recent tour of Japan.
