Chelsea Star Expects To Sign New Deal “Before The End Of This Month”

Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has revealed he is in advanced talks with the club over a new contract, and he could sign an extension before the end of October.

The Spaniard’s current deal expires in 2021, but the 27-year-old says he is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge for longer:

“We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month – in the coming days.”

“My father takes care of that as he is the one who leads the negotiations. I am 27 years old, I still have two more years and I am going to extend my contract.”

Alonso has been a revelation since he arrived at the club from Fiorentina in a £24m deal back in 2016. He excelled under manager Antonio Conte, making the left-wing back position his own, and has continued his good form under new coach Maurizio Sarri.

Despite the Italian employing four at the back, the Spaniard has continued to perform whilst playing a more withdrawn role.

Sarri believes he is possibly the best left-back in Europe, and could even become the best in the world if he improves defensively. The player’s form hasn’t gone unrecognised at international level either with new Spain manager Luis Enrique having given Alonso a starting place against England last month.
