Chelsea Star Continues Spanish Loan Spell

Chelsea youngster Thibaut Courtois has been granted permission of staying another season on loan at Atletico Madrid, after the goalkeeper has been in terrific form for the Spanish side, wanting to stay on if first team football was not a possibility in London.

The young goalkeeper has been rated very highly by experts, and has been showing tremendous form for Atletico over the past two seasons. Jose Mourinho’s arrival has instigated an overhaul at Stamford Bridge, with players of less quality told to move on to make way for some of the best talents around the world. However, the goalkeeping position at the club has been one captured securely by Czech Republic international Petr Cech, who has personified consistency in his long spell at the club. Cech was brought into Chelsea by then manager Claudio Ranieri, but his run of success at the club came during Mourinho’s time, when the club won the Barclays Premier League for two successive seasons.

Cech is now 31-years old, and still has a few quality years ahead of him. Mourinho will be delighted to be able to have Cech in goal for at least another two seasons, as was the faith replicated in his first spell at the club.

Courtois was signed by Chelsea from Racing Genk in 2011, where the club won the race when many others were interested in the young keeper’s talent. He was signed by the club as a future replacement for Cech, and hence to give him appropriate experience, loaned him to Atletico, where he gained reputation as a prolific shot-stopper.

The 21-year old has impressed the media, fans and experts when he bravely defended his side in a 1-2 win in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu this past season. His saves were primarily the reason why Real did not score more goals, and surely the board at Chelsea noticed the same.

However, Courtois will continue as Atletico’s number one, and gain a few more games under his belt before he can return to take up the big responsibility of replacing Cech.

According to Metro, Atletico confirmed the news through Twitter: “It’s official. @Thibautcourtois will play next season in the team.”
