Chelsea star causes stir with controversial Instagram post

Chelsea forward Willian has caused a stir after an Instagram post in which he appears to edit out manager Antonio Conte.

Chelsea lifted the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United, and the Brazilian took to social media to share his delight after the victory.

The Blues’ star shared a photo of the squad posing with the trophy, and edited a number of ‘trophy’ emoji’s onto the post before sharing.

However his placement of the emoji’s appear to be chosen very carefully – three placed close together to completely wipe out Chelsea manager Antonio Conte from the frame.

Willian has been used only sparsely throughout the campaign by Conte, especially in recent months, and The Brazil international was used as only a late substitute during the weekend’s final.

His lack of starts as of late have led to rumours of a fall-out between the pair, and it has been suggested that Willian will leave Stamford Bridge this summer if Conte remains at the club, with the 29-year-old unhappy at Conte’s use of him this year.

And Willian’s latest actions seem to all but confirm his dislike of the former Juventus boss.

The picture echoes a similar social media post by former Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who chose to edit out Antonio Conte’s name from a team-sheet when Chelsea drew Atletico Madrid in the Champions League at the beginning of this season.

Costa endured a high-profile spat with Conte during his last season in South West London, leading to his eventual departure from the club and return to Atletico Madrid – with whom he won the Europa League this season.

Willian too could follow in the Spaniard’s footsteps with Atletico said to be interested in landing the Brazilian should he leave The Bridge this summer.

Manchester United are too keen on taking him on, with manager Jose Mourinho a big admirer of the 29-year-old.
