Chelsea star calls for calm over title defence

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has rallied his side to not give up on their Premier League title hopes, calling for calm among his teammates.

Conte’s men went into the game against Watford on Saturday off the back of some poor results which included back-to-back league defeats. Despite going behind to the Hornets, the Blues eventually ran out 4-2 victors, and sit 4th in the table after 9 matches played.

The win still leaves Chelsea 9 points off leaders Manchester City, who look like they are going to run away with the title soon. But Cahill has urged his team not to give up hope, and to ‘calm down’.

“You’ve got to remember we are in the middle of October, there’s loads of games to play,” Cahill said.

The England international pointed to how his side were in a similar situation last season before going on to win the league.

“Last season we were eight points behind Man City and we managed to claw it back. I’m not saying it is going to happen but we need to calm down.”

There has been a lot of negative press surrounding Chelsea recently, but the results are starting to come in and it is only a matter of time before they reduce the deficit on City.
