Chelsea should consider moving for Antoine Griezmann

Antoine Griezmann is one of the hottest players on the planet at the moment, and despite signing a new deal at Atletico in the summer, there is still a strong suggestion that he will depart the club within the next 12 months.

As Spoken from the Veteran

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has already given the Frenchman his approval, and speaking ahead of the Blues’ clash with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League earlier in the month, a game they won 2-1, Lampard said in an interview with the London Evening Standard:

“The player Chelsea has to particularly watch out for tomorrow is Antoine Griezmann. I really like him, he’s such an intelligent player, Griezmann is not a typical striker as such but still scores a lot of goals. He plays as a false No. 9 if anything. That makes him hard to pick up.”

“Every pass is the right pass and he always chooses the tight option. No wonder so many big clubs are prepared to pay silly money for him.”

Greizmann could play just about anywhere in Chelsea’s front line, and there is a lot of talk about his release clause still being at around £89m. Antonio Conte should almost certainly think about trying to bring in the forward, especially since their relationship with Atletico is potentially in a much better place with the homecoming of Diego Costa.

Man United Unearths New Offer for Antoine

Of course, the Blues would face strong competition for Griezmann’s signature from rivals Manchester United – with the Red Devils allegedly agreeing a deal for the forward last summer, only for it to fall through as the player did not want to leave Atleti whilst they were under embargo, confirming that he considered it to be a “dirty move to leave now.”

But with the embargo being lifted come January, perhaps Jose Mourinho will reinvest his interest in the 26-year-old, and deploy him in a wide role instead of playing him as a striker where he generally plays for club and country.

Betting Odds in Favor of Chelsea!?

So, with both Chelsea and United seemingly strong for striking options with Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku respectively up front for them, would Griezmann be likely to accept playing back in a wider role as he did for Real Sociedad?

Don’t Need Griezmann

It seems Manchester United may well have all but ended their interest in the player after his refusal to sign for the club first time around, but Chelsea will do well to take advantage of this and swoop in with an offer themselves. Griezmann is a world class player, and with the current climate of transfer fees £89m seems almost cheap for such a talent.
