The summer transfer window hasn’t exactly gone to plan for Chelsea so far as Antonio Conte’s side have found real problems trying to lure their prime-targets to Stamford Bridge, with the biggest blow coming last week as Manchester United won the race for Romelu Lukaku.

Progress has been made in the past seven days though as Chelsea tied up a deal to bring German defender Antonio Rudiger to the club from Roma, providing Conte with more defensive options following the departures of John Terry and Nathan Ake, whilst another big move is imminent.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is in England ahead of his proposed move to Chelsea, said to be around the £40m mark, and the Frenchman is set to partner his compatriot N’Golo Kante in the middle of the park next season- giving the Blues a strong midfield partnership.

Whilst the Blues won the Premier League title without too much of a challenge from rival sides last season, Conte still needs to improve his ranks further in the month before the new season commences- and he has to go all-out to land a superstar striker, with options running short.

The failure to land Lukaku was a significant blow and it appears Chelsea may face similar problems pursuing a deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who doesn’t seem convinced on a move to the Premier League, and Chelsea need to find an alternative approach.

The Blues have two options heading into the final six weeks of the transfer market, with the first being for Chelsea to go all-out and land a superstar striker on the transfer window- with reports suggesting that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund and Torino’s Andrea Belotti are possible targets.

Both players have been linked elsewhere though, including AC Milan, and Chelsea’s better option may be to consider the short-term this summer and sign strikers who can provide an impact at Stamford Bridge without solving the striking problem in the long-term.

Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente and Bayer Leverkusen’s Javier Hernandez would be the ideal duo for this sort of position in the side, as both experienced strikers have a decent record within English football and should be a hit at Stamford Bridge- although they’re unlikely to set the world alight.

In reality, Chelsea need their wider players like Eden Hazard and Pedro to continue shining next season and easing the pressure upon the central striker, particularly if the Blues go for the second option on the market.
