Chelsea Set To Offer Three Year Contract To Lampard With Ex-Villa And City Star Likely To Join Him

Chelsea will offer Derby manager Frank Lampard a three-year contract, according to ESPN UK.

The Blues have been waiting for Maurizio Sarri’s exit to be finalised before making a move for the Blues legend. However, with the Italian having been appointed Juventus boss, they will now make their move.

A formal approach is likely to be made this week, with Derby expected to demand £4m in compensation. Chelsea will likely have no issue with that considering they reportedly received £5m from Juve for Sarri.

As well as assistant manager Jody Morris joining him at Stamford Bridge, another member of the Rams’ backroom staff will also likely make the switch.

Ex-Aston Villa and Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given was appointed goalkeeping coach at Pride Park last year, and reports in Ireland suggest, he will follow Lampard to Chelsea.

The Blues will dispense with Massimo Nenci, who was Sarri’s goalkeeping coach, and the Italian will be among a number of current staff leaving this summer to make room for Lampard’s coaching team.

As reported at the weekend, Claude Makelele is poised to be appointed to a position at Stamford Bridge, with Didier Drogba also in the frame for a coaching role.
