Chelsea Set 40M Asking Price As Lampard Confirms Talks Over Star’s Future

Chelsea are keen on offloading goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga before the transfer window closes, according to reports in the English media.

The Blues have set a £40m asking price for the 25-year-old but they are aware that few teams will be interested in buying him for that figure, especially in the current financial climate.

With that being the case, they have also made Kepa available on loan. Edouard Mendy’s arrival from Rennes this week means they can now ship out the Spanish international and manager Frank Lampard confirmed at yesterday’s pre-match press conference, that he is due to hold talks with the keeper over his future:

“I didn’t see Kepa but I will have a conversation with him and Wily Caballero over the next 24 hours. I’ve a very open line of communication with both of them. It’s important as goalkeepers, they have their own small union in the training ground because of the nature of the way they work together.”

Mendy won’t be in goal when Chelsea face West Brom this evening but Willy Caballero could still replace Kepa in the side, after performing well in the Carabao Cup tie against Barnsley on Wednesday night.

Chelsea signed Kepa for £71m two years ago but, after another mistake in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend, it appears his days at Stamford Bridge could be numbered.
