Chelsea seem intent on signing a new winger & could hijack Man United move

Chelsea have made big moves this summer to bring Willy Caballero, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Alvaro Morata and Antonio Rudiger to Stamford Bridge but Antonio Conte is desperate to bolster his squad with further additions.

A wealth of departures from Stamford Bridge this summer means the Blues have a squad that currently has 12 players less than Chelsea had at the start of last season, following the exits of John Terry, Nathan Ake, Nathaniel Chalobah and company this summer.

That has led to numerous questions as to whether Chelsea have the depth to compete domestically and in Europe this season, with Conte clearly concerned about the lack of options he has in certain areas.

Whilst Chelsea may seem strong in wide positions as they boast the talents of Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro Rodriguez, amongst others, Conte seems to be intent on strengthening his options in this area and could attempt to hijack a Manchester United move.

The Daily Mirror have stated Chelsea are keen on Inter Milan ace Ivan Perisic, who has widely been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks. The Italian side have made it clear they’ll sell for the right price and a bidding war could therefore commence.

The difficulty for Chelsea is that they’ll be playing catch-up in negotiations and Inter have requested Anthony Martial on-loan as part of a deal for Perisic. A similar demand could therefore be made to Chelsea but the Blues cannot afford to see any more departures from their squad, even if Perisic arrives.

Conte does not have all his eggs in one basket though as the Blues are also reportedly tracking veteran winger Antonio Candreva, a player Conte has had his sights on for some time, and the 30-year-old may be more content to battle-it-out for first-team football, whereas Perisic may demand a starting berth.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also a target for Chelsea but the England international will want guaranteed football ahead of the World Cup next summer and the Blues may be unable to offer that opportunity, especially as Arsenal seem prepared to give the former Southampton man the football he craves ahead of the new season.

Who Chelsea move for in the final month of the window is anyone’s guess at this stage but it’s clear Conte’s business is far from done.
