Chelsea have started building a team constructed mostly out of youngsters. If it weren’t for some of the Blues’ icons like JT and Lampard, the team average would be one of the lowest in the Premier League. This current squad project began before Benitez was around. Players like Oscar and Hazard were eased into the first team and have now become regulars. Mata, Schurrle, De Bruyne, Van Ginkel and Bertrand are some other important names that are under 25 years of age and have already established themselves as strong starting line-up candidates. Mourinho is determined to construct a team that will probably become one of the most competitive in Europe in a year or two.

Chelsea’s current team is a balanced mix of experienced players and youngsters that are among the best footballers in the world even if they have not all turned 23. The Blues have already managed to form one of the best middle-sections of the Premier League. Their offensive power is brought to the pitch by Oscar, Schurrle and Hazard. The next logical step would be to find proper defenders to replace Terry, Cole or Ivanovic who will probably leave the club in two or three years.

The Blues’ new policy states that players who are over 30 will no longer receive contracts that are exceeding a year’s worth of time. With that in mind it is hard to believe that Chelsea’s current defenders will be part of Mourinho’s plan.

One player the Portuguese manager has had an eye on for a long time, is the Spurs’ newest acquisition. Vlad Chiriches, who came to Tottenham form Steaua, is according to Metro a possible target for the Blues. He has been monitored by Mourinho since he was coaching Real Madrid and despite the fact that the 23 year old has had little to do with English football, he still might be a very good replacement for someone like John Terry or Cahill.

Chiriches’s agent said that all the Romanian needs to do is perform as well as possible and a transfer to Stamford Bridge will no longer be a just a rumor.
