Chelsea readying move for Candreva

Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti has admitted that Chelsea could be in line to make a move for winger Antonio Candreva before the summer transfer window closes. Conte’s side have spent over £150m on transfers so far this summer, but with so many departures it is imperative that they make further additions.

Aged 30, Candreva has been one of Europe’s finest wingers for many years. Having been capped by Italy almost 50 times, the winger spent his career predominantly with Lazio, before making the switch to Inter last year.

However, despite being a key player for the Serie A giants, Spalletti is aware of the interest from Chelsea, and says they could try to sign him before the end of the transfer window.

“My position is to keep him and the club agrees with me, for now he has not shown any other signals,” said Spalletti on Candreva.

“We go forward calmly, then I don’t know what could happen tomorrow.”

“As far as I can tell, Chelsea could try to do something. You are the ones who always anticipate these situations, so I should ask you.”

Candreva has spent his life playing football in Italy, and being at the age of 30, perhaps he is at a crossroads in his career. He is believed to be settled in Milan, but Italian outlet La Gazzetta claim Inter would consider selling the player if the right offer was made.

Chelsea are known to be in the market for further additions this summer, with manager Antonio Conte repeatedly expressing his desire to add to the squad. Speaking after Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham, Conte once again reiterated that the club are ‘trying their best’ to recruit in the transfer market.

“The club is trying its best in the transfer market to improve our squad but I must be happy,” said Conte.

“We only have to think on the pitch and not to give answers to people.”

“This moment is not easy for us but I am very happy to have this group of players because they showed me great commitment, desire and will to improve after a great season. We only need to focus on the pitch, outside does not matter for us.”
