Chelsea Ready To Sell Manchester United Target Mata For £40 Million

Juan Mata has cut a lonely figure ever since Jose Mourinho took charge of Chelsea in the summer. The Special One has preferred to use the likes of Hazard, Oscar and Willian in recent weeks with Mata, Chelsea’s Player of the Season for two consecutive years, relegated to the bench.

With the World Cup in the near future, Mata has been linked with a loan move back to his homeland so that he can grab a place in Spain’s squad for Brazil this summer.

However, the Spain international is now being targeted by Manchester United, with David Moyes keen to address his creativity problems in the January window. The former Everton manager is eyeing a move for Mata to solve his midfield woes as he looks to rebuild the squad he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson.

According to the Daily Mail, United have been informed by Chelsea that only a bid in the region of £35-40 million will be entertained. The report suggests that Moyes is on the brink of making an offer for Mata, who is willing to swap Premier League clubs in order to get more game time.

However, there might be complications involved since Chelsea want United forward Wayne Rooney but the Red Devils are unwilling to sell to a direct title rival. However, Moyes reckons he can convince Mourinho to sell Mata if he can offer the required £40 million without letting go of Rooney.
