Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez is one of six players who could be offloaded by the La Liga club this summer, according to reports in the Spanish media.
The Uruguayan international maybe let go along with Saul Niguez, Sime Vrsaljko and Vitolo, while loan signings Moussa Dembele and Lucas Torreira could be sent back to their parent clubs.
Gimenez is believed to be on Chelsea’s three-man shortlist of centre-back targets, along with Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule and RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate. Out of the trio, he would be the most expensive option, having a €120m (£104m) release clause.
Manchester City reportedly tried to sign the 26-year-old last summer, only to be put off by Atletico’s demands. However, if the Spanish side are now ready to listen to offers, he could be available for a lower amount.
Gimenez does have a long history of muscular injuries, and he has only played 22 games this season, but his undoubted talent may tempt the Blues into making an offer for the defender.
