Chelsea Ready To Buy From Russia

Zenit St. Petersburg’s Axel Witsel could be coming to Stamford Bridge as Roman Abramovich decides to get personally involved in the transfer.

The Blues could be building one of the strongest midfields in the Premier League after Metro announced Axel Witsel might be coming to Stamford Bridge. The 26 year old who was always seen as being too good for Zenit and the competition level in Russia, still has 2 years left of his current deal. Abramovich could get him out of it faster though as he apparently decided to make some time and sit down with Zenit’s president Alexander Dyukov Valeryevich.

Witsel is targeted by other important teams as well but was never so close to leaving. There was some interest from Manchester United but that is no longer the case as they already signed Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin. AC Milan also seemed interested in Witsel who is valued at about £30 million. Actually that is his price before playing for Zenit. Since moving to Russia his value has not increased too much if at all.

There is very little doubt Witsel will not be able to hold his own in the Premier League. He is physical, has great stamina and can dominate his adversaries. There is a matter of compatibility between him and Matic though as both handle the same area on the pitch. They could play next to each other if the Special One decides to go super defensive next year.

Here is how next year’s team could look like if Witsel does come to Stamford Bridge.

Courtois, Azpiliqueta, Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Matic, Witsel, Fabregas,Hazard, Oscar, Costa

This is a 4-5-1 formation to which Mourinho is so very familiar and has brought him lots of trophies. Unfortunately one midfielder will have to step down if the Witsel deal goes down.
