Chelsea Prepared To Fight Manchester United For Southampton Rising Star Nathaniel Clyne

Chelsea have big chances of signing one of the Premier League’s most promising defenders. Southampton’s 23 year old Nathaniel Clyne has been monitored by the Blues for a while now and could represent a great option for replacing Ivanovic in a couple of years. According to Metro, Mourinho will have to battle it out with Manchester who are also keen on bringing in the England international.

Clyne who only has 18 months left on his deal with Southampton, has not yet agreed to any extension. Even more so, he retweeted a post by former Chelsea right back, Mario Melchiot who suggested a transfer is in place and that Chelsea should be the next destination.

To be fair, the Blues kind of need Clyne. He would benefit a lot by learning a thing or two from Ivanovic as well. With the Serbian closing in on his last years of his career, it could be beneficial to pass some of his knowledge to a younger right back. Even though they have two very different playing styles with Clyne looking more like Marcelo or Daniel Alves, both are inclined to heavily support the attack. Southampton’s player will have a disadvantage in terms of physique but will definitely make up for it through speed and skill. Having the 23 year old alongside Willian on the right side could create a deadly combination for the attack but could lower the defense’s efficiency which is definitely something to keep in mind.
