Goalkeeper and Defence
GK – Robert Sanchez – after an impressive Club World Cup, the Spaniard will start the season in goal.
RB – Reece James – the captain showed in the last pre-season friendly against AC Milan what he is all about. He is the favourite to start ahead of Malo Gusto this weekend.
CB – Tosin Adarabioyo – Levi Colwill’s ACL injury means the 27-year-old could be set for an extended run in the starting eleven, at least until Wesley Fofana is fully fit.
CB – Trevoh Chalobah – this time last year, the 26-year-old was frozen out and was about to be sent out on loan to Palace. What a difference 12 months can make.
LB – Marc Cucurella – Jorrel Hato has been brought in to provide the left-back with some competition but Cucurella will keep hold of the jersey for now.
