Chelsea Plotting Summer Bid For Serie A Midfield General

Chelsea are interested in Atalanta midfielder Rulan Malinovskyi, according to the Express. The Ukrainian was scouted during the most recent international break by Claude Makelele and the ex-Blues star sent back a glowing report about the player.

The 26-year-old was actually at Genk last season, having scored 16 goals and provided 16 assists in 51 appearances for the Belgian club. His performances led Atalanta to shell out £12m on the player back in July.

Malinovskyi hasn’t been that effective in the final third for his new club so far as, despite playing in the number 10 role for the Serie A side, he has yet to score or provide an assist.

With Chelsea having a host of central midfielders such as Mason Mount, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus Cheek who can play in advanced positions, a move for the Ukrainian does seem unlikely at the moment. Due to the Blues’ transfer ban, any bid will have to wait until the summer.
