Chelsea plotting £90 Serie A swoop

Chelsea are plotting are £90 million swoop for Juventus duo Gonzalo Higuain and Daniele Rugani, according to Sky sources.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is looking to strengthen his squad prior to the start of the new season, and will turn to his home country as he looks for fresh faces to bring to The Bridge.

And the Italian is reportedly keen on Higuain and Rugani, both of whom he knows well from his time managing Napoli.

Higuain has scored 55 goals in the last two seasons with Juventus, and previously broke the Serie A scoring record while under Sarri at Napoli with 36-goals in the 2015/16 season, while Rugani has established himself as one of Europe’s most talented young defenders over the past two years with Juve.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol believes Chelsea will complete deals for both players in the coming weeks, with Rugani likely to be the first of the pair to arrive in London.

“They are getting closer and closer to Daniele Rugani. Juventus are asking for around £40m for the central defender,” Solhekol said.

“Chelsea see him as a long-term replacement for Gary Cahill and David Luiz.

“Gonzalo Higuain is one of their top targets but Juventus want £50million – even though he’s 30.

“New Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri knows Higuain well from his time in Italy.
