Chelsea Players Whose Contracts Expire in June

The season is at its 3/4 point now with many clubs only having 10 Premier League games left – however, Chelsea and Graham Potter will already be thinking ahead to next year’s Premier League campaign.

These three Chelsea players will see their contracts at Stamford Bridge expire on June 30, 2023, if they are not offered a new deal.

We won’t be including Denis Zakaria or Joao Felix, as these are both at the club on loan.

Thiago Silva

Legendary defender Thiago Silva has been a ray of hope in what has been a dismal season for the Blues. The Brazilian has been a consummate professional since arriving at the club, never shying away from a challenge and holding Chelsea’s back line together.

Despite his quality performances, he’s far beyond the peak of his career – the former PSG and AC Milan player is now 38 years of age.

He’s also picked up 113 caps for Brazil, scoring seven goals. Overall, Silva is Brazil’s fifth most capped player of all time.

Marcus Bettinelli

Once touted as a potential future England ‘keeper, Bettinelli never really reached these heights. Regardless, he is still a solid goalkeeper and is always ready to be called upon if Édouard Mendy or Kepa Arrizabalaga are not available.

Bettinelli spent the majority of his career at Fulham, from 2010 to 2021.

He’s also spent time on loan at clubs such as Middlesbrough and Accrington Stanley.

N’Golo Kante

There was a time when N’Golo Kante was believed by many to be the world’s greatest midfielder. Unfortunately, now aged 31 and plagued by injuries, it seems that Kante’s prime has passed.

Some Chelsea fans would like to keep Kante at the club, for sentimental reasons – which is entirely understandable. However, you have to factor in how useful he is to the team at this stage in his career, also. This season, the Frenchman has made just two appearances for Chelsea in all competitions.

At the peak of his powers, Kante was a brilliant defensive midfielder with limitless energy. He won the World Cup in 2018 with France, alongside Premier League titles for both Leicester and Chelsea. Additionally, he also won the Champions League in 2021, where Chelsea beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the final.
