Chelsea Players Still Gutted Over Champions League Failiure

Even though fans and most recently players have expressed their disappointment with this season Metro.co.uk reveals that Rafa Benitez seems very happy with the way things are working out for him and his team. Even if the Spaniard has managed to still maintain great chances to win two trophies and finish in the top three Premier League teams, missing out on the Champions League title and the fact that United are miles ahead and will most likely win the Premier league, cannot stop bothering a lot of people who are devoted to the Blues.

The most recent complaint came from none other than Obi Mikel, who has been deeply disappointed with the fact that he has to play his European matches on Thursday, not on Tuesday and Wednesday as he has for the past number of years. After leaving the Champions League group stages, Mikel admitted that the Europa League does not come with the same fulfilling experiences and that he has felt a little empty and lacking motivation.

Chelsea’s midfielder also said that his team is quite desperate to reclaim their position in the highest echelons of European football and that this season is definitely not one they want to remember as far as the Champions League is concerned. He mentioned the fact that he means no disrespect to the Europa League but in his opinion nothing compares to the sound of the Champions League anthem, continuing his statement by saying that he does not even know the Europa League theme song.

There was clearly a sense of frustration in his words, especially when talking about other teams. Mikel seemed to be speaking on behalf of all his teammates when he said that the Champions League trophy is the most important out there. There is nothing worse than seeing your group adversaries playing against the biggest names in football. Even with Benitez saying that their season was an excellent one, Obi Mikel was uninterested with his teams’ final results regarding the Premier League. All he said is that it does not matter if they finish third or fourth as long as they get the chance to play in next year’s Champions League.
