Chelsea began the Enzo Maresca era with a 2-0 loss to champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
The Blues’ revamped squad faced a tough challenge in City, despite not finding the net they controlled the game at times.
Goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic handed Chelsea a defeat on their opening day when the Blues’ defence looked vulnerable.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom with positive performances from players in midfield and attacking positions despite the lack of goals. Following the game Enzo Maresca spoke to BBC Sport, he said: “For large parts of the game we competed well. I’m happy, we don’t like to lose the game, but the performance was good.”
