Goalkeeper and Defence

GK – Djordje Petrovic – 7/10 – didn’t have much to do in normal time, but he did look nervy when kicking out from the back. Saved the final spot-kick to win the shootout.

RB – Axel Disasi – 6/10 – he was solid and dependable defensively, but he doesn’t offer a great deal in the final third of the pitch, unlike Malo Gusto who provided more of a threat when switched to the right flank.

CB – Thiago Silva – 6/10 – failed to deal with Callum Wilson’s run before the opening goal, but he did put in some strong tackles and interceptions to restrict Newcastle to few other chances.

CB – Benoit Badiashile – 4/10 – was culpable for Newcastle’s goal. He couldn’t sort out his feet and Wilson punished him. It was revealed after the game that Badiashile had been suffering from illness so that may explain his below-par performance.

LB – Levi Colwill – 4/10 – the 20-year-old gave away the ball before Newcastle opened the scoring. Hooked at halftime with Pochettino explaining after the match that the defender was suffering from fatigue.
