Chelsea Player Ratings V Manchester City: One Player Gets 9/10 And Two Others Get An 8

Chelsea can take a lot of positives from the 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday evening.

While they did have to hold on for a point in the end, they really had a go at the reigning Premier League champions.

It does show you that there is a lot of talent in this squad when they play at their very best.

Goalkeeper and Defence

GK – Djordje Petrovic – 7/10 – was shaky under the high ball and his kicking wasn’t great, but he made some good saves, particularly one from Erling Haaland that took a deflection in the second half.

RB – Malo Gusto – 6/10 – got forward to provide width on the right wing in the first half but struggled to deal with Jeremy Doku after the interval.

CB – Axel Disasi – 9/10 – man of the match. The Frenchman made countless blocks and clearances throughout the 90 minutes.

CB – Levi Colwill – 7/10 – solid for the most part but the 20-year-old did lose Haaland who missed a free header in the second half.

LB – Ben Chilwell – 6/10 – the captain had a lot to deal with. Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker all gravitated to his side of the pitch and he did well for the most part. A bit wasteful in possession though.

Midfield

CM – Moises Caicedo – 6/10 – the Ecuadorian did break up play in the middle of the park but his tackling was pretty poor and he committed too many fouls.

CM – Enzo Fernandez – 7/10 – the midfielder was strong both in and out of possession in the first half but faded as the game wore on as the Blues struggled to keep the ball.

AM – Conor Gallagher – 8/10 – another very good display from the 24-year-old whose work rate was unmatched by any other player on the pitch.

Gallagher was tasked with man-marking Rodri and he did an excellent job, whilst also being strong in possession.

Forwards

Cole Palmer – 7/10 – the winger didn’t have the same impact as he did in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge but he did get into spaces between the lines to cause problems for City.

Nicolas Jackson – 7/10 – was superb in the build-up to Raheem Sterling’s opener, with a neat flick before delivering a pinpoint accurate cross. Should have done better, though, with his one-on-one opportunity.

The Senegalese international offers a lot in terms of his work ethic but there are still questions about his finishing.

Raheem Sterling – 8/10 – took his goal expertly and was very lively down the left flank before being substituted on the hour mark.

Substitutes

Christopher Nkunku – 4/10 – the big reason why Chelsea began to sit so deep in the second half was because the Frenchman could not hold up the ball.

He also had a decent opportunity to score but his shot was blocked. A very disappointing display.

Trevoh Chalobah – 5/10 – it was a tough ask coming on in such a game, considering he hasn’t played at all this season. Unlucky that Rodri’s goal deflected off him and into the back of the net.

Cesare Casadei – 5/10 – could have done better to rush out and block Rodri’s shot.
