Joao Pedro pounced on a mistake from the Bees’ defence and blasted the ball into the back of the net to put the Blues 1-0 up in the first half.

Both teams had several chances to get on the scoresheet before another error from Brentford led to a penalty that Cole Palmer duly dispatched.
