Midfield
CM – Enzo Fernandez – 6/10 – there was some atrocious passing from the Argentinian international early on but he grew into the match, delivering a cross to Estevao late on, which the Brazilian could have scored from.
CM – Moises Caicedo – 7/10 – looked solid despite doubts about his fitness. Made several tackles and his passing was on point.
AM – Facunco Buonanotte – 6/10 – the 20-year-old tried his best to find space off the ball, but he didn’t really pose much of a direct threat to Benfica’s defence.
Forwards
RW – Pedro Neto – 8/10 – undoubtedly Chelsea’s best player. He was involved in the build-up to the opening goal and he flashed a shot of his own past the far post.
CF – Tyrique George – 5/10 – had one chance of note that he hit straight at the goalkeeper.
LW – Alejandro Garnacho – 6/10 – his cross back across goal forced the own goal, but he was poor other than that bright moment.
Substitutes
Estevao – 7/10 – had one mazy run which Benfica’s players found difficult to stop. He also had a header that was directed straight at the keeper.
Joao Pedro – 4/10 – the Brazilian got himself sent off for two bookable offences and he will now miss the next Champions League fixture.
Jamie Gittens – 5/10 – the summer signing is finding it difficult to make his mark in a Chelsea shirt. Nothing really came off for him.
Josh Acheampong – N/A – replaced Badiashile to give the Frenchman a rest ahead of Saturday’s match against Liverpool.
Reece James – N/A – the captain came on for Gusto in the closing stages.
