Chelsea on red alert after Brazilian superstar’s £45 million move collapses

Chelsea and Manchester United are on red alert after Brazil star Arthur’s proposed move to Barcelona has fallen through.

The Gremio midfielder was supposedly close to completing a £35 million transfer to Barcelona in the summer, however reports now suggest negotiations have broken down over the transfer fee.

Marca report that Barcelona failed to meet Arthur’s wage demands and the fee offered to Gremio was around £10m less than they wanted.

The news of Arthur’s proposed switch to the Camp Nou falling through will no doubt come as good news to Chelsea and Manchester United – both are thought to interested in landing the midfielder come the end of the season.

Both Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho are understood to be big admirers of the 21-year-old playmaker, and could move to try and land him in the summer.

Arthur impressed during his breakthrough season in Brazil.

The Gremio star has made 50 appearances in all competitions, helping his side win both the Copa Libertadores and most recently the Recopa Sudamericana, in which his side beat Argentine side Independiente on penalties to claim the trophy.
