Chelsea On Alert As French Ace’s Agent Reveals Contract Talks Have Stalled

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is no closer to signing a new contract to stay at Old Trafford, according to the player’s agent.

Speaking to French radio, Philippe Lamboley has said the two sides are very far apart in their negotiations over a new deal:

“I am very pessimistic about discussions going positively. They have already sent us offers that do not meet our expectations, starting on bases very far from our wishes. We are far from agreement, for the time being.”

United triggered their option to extend Martial’s contract for a further year in order to give them more time to come to an agreement, but the 23-year-old is reportedly being pursued by the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs.

His contract now runs until 2020, but he will still be heading into the last 12 months of his deal next summer which could put United under pressure to sell.

How Jose Mourinho’s sacking will affect Martial’s future, it is unknown, but going by Lamboley’s comments, it seems that the finances of the deal are the main cause of friction, rather than anything to do with his playing situation.

Chelsea are reported to be keen to sign a new striker with both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud having failed to convince manager Maurizio Sarri. The Italian has opted to start Eden Hazard as a ‘false nine’ in the past couple of games.
