Two of Chelsea’s most iconic players decided to part ways with the club at the end of last season. Even though both Lampard and Cole were very useful to the team, it was the Blues’ number 8 who made fans express their disappointment with the club’s new management. Many said for good reason that Lampard was in way better shape than most youngsters who are now playing a similar position in teams belonging to the Premier League. The 36 year old who is currently holding the record as Chelsea’s top all-time scorer, could have managed to play one more season without age becoming an issue. He proved that during the first part of last season when he was one of the Blues’ best and most reliable player. This happened when Ramires and Mikel were healthy and ready to play. Even so, Lampard was not given a contract extension if you were to consider what rumors say. According to Metro, the English international was the one who refused to continue for one more year.

In his recent statements, Mourinho admited that it was a tough decision but negotiations fell through. Lampard decided to leave in order to sign with New York City, a team which has the same owners as Manchester City. In an unexpected turn of events, not only did Lampard avoid ending his career but has also given his approval to join Manchester City until the MLS starts.
