Chelsea No Longer Certain Luiz Will Continue At Stamford Bridge

David Luiz who is currently one of the best defenders playing on European soil, could leave London to join Barcelona who seem desperate to sign the Brazilian. This is not the first time he has been linked to the Spanish side, as transfer rumors emerged on a regular basis during the summer of 2013.

According to talkSPORT, Barcelona will try making a move on Luiz pretty fast as the transfer ban is just temporarily lifted.  The defender is currently valued at £40million which even though may seem a bit much, it is a great deal for bot Chelsea and Barca. The 27 year old came to London from Benfica for almost half the money the Blues might make if they decide to let him leave.

Luiz is under contract with Chelsea until 2017 but has been having trouble keeping his spot in Mourinho’s first eleven even since the Portuguese boss came to Stamford Bridge. Despite the fact that the defender was one of Chelsea’s main men for last season, something happened once the Special One came from Madrid. It seems that the chemistry between the two is not as great as it was with Luiz and Benitez. Because of that, Barca may have a chance to land the Brazilian who made 80 Premier League appearances for the Blues since moving to Stamford Bridge.

This season he was featured in 18 Premier League matches but was never certain of his spot in the first team. What is even stranger is that his performances were above average when compared to those of the other Chelsea defenders and he did not start against Liverpool today most likely with the Atletico match in mind.
