William Gallas Makes Worrying “Not Good Enough” Chelsea Claim

Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has claimed that he thinks Chelsea aren’t good enough to win the Premier League.

The Blues come off the back of a 2-1 defeat to league leaders Liverpool in a game where a Nicolas Jackson goal wasn’t enough to overcome efforts from Mo Salah and Curtis Jones at Anfield.

They face a home game against Newcastle United this weekend in the Premier League as Enzo Maresca’s side aim to bounce back.

William Gallas, who spent five years at Chelsea believes that Enzo Maresca’s side isn’t yet ready to challenge the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City for the league title.

He told Prime Casino: “Chelsea are not in the title race this season. I can’t put them there – they’re not good enough to win the title. I’m sorry, they’re just not going to be consistent enough to challenge the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

“The race will be between Arsenal, Liverpool and City and it will be until the end of the season.”

What are Chelsea lacking compared to likes of Manchester City?

The Blues made 10 signings in the summer transfer window spending over £180 million, but Gallas still doesn’t believe they are good enough to challenge.

So far this season, Chelsea have been clinical in front of goal, scoring the third-most goals in the division behind Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

However, the Blues’ defensive record is where improvement is needed as Enzo Maresca’s side have conceded 10 goals in eight games which is worse than all three title contenders of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

They have looked vulnerable at the back and would possibly delve into the centre-back market during the January transfer window to strengthen their record.

Chelsea could revive interest in summer transfer target

Over the summer, Chelsea were linked with Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo who has been one of the better defenders in the Premier League so far.

He has helped Forest to the second-best defensive record in the league behind only Liverpool and Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have conceded just six goals in eight games.

Murillo is valued at £60 million by Forest and talks were held early in the summer, though they broke down due to Forest’s hefty price tag.

To boost their chances in the title race however, Chelsea could revive their interest in Murillo in January should they decide on adding another defender.
