Former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham has spoken out about Raheem Sterling’s treatment at Chelsea.
Sterling was told by the Blues that he was no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge and that the 29-year-old now has to find himself a new club.
The former Manchester City and Liverpool winger has been linked to Manchester United and is reportedly open to the move, however, nothing concrete has come out yet.
Ex-England International Teddy Sheringham criticised the Blues and their treatment of Sterling after the news broke. He told Prime Casino: “I was so shocked to see what has happened to Raheem Sterling at Chelsea. It would have been hard for him to stomach too.
“He’s been a top player throughout his career, especially at Liverpool and Manchester City. For this to happen to him, for him to be cast off and unwanted, at his age, coming into his prime, it just doesn’t make sense.
“It’s horrible to watch and I have lots of sympathy for Raheem Sterling because I’ve been in and around dressing rooms where this happens, and you know how much it will have affected the player.
“I’m sure there will be some kind of agreement brokered because it’s not good for Sterling to waste the best years of his career not playing.”
Raheem Sterling linked with Premier League rivals
Sterling has been linked with Manchester United and Crystal Palace since being told to leave Stamford Bridge.
The Red Devils are in talks over a move for Sterling according to the Telegraph, which would see Jadon Sancho going the other way to sign for Chelsea.
It would help both sides resolve ongoing sagas of players no longer wanted at their club as Jadon Sancho‘s time at Manchester United has been rocky.
Sterling’s Chelsea career in numbers
Raheem Sterling had a lot of success at Manchester City but his time at Chelsea has been somewhat disappointing.
The English winger signed for the Blues in 2022 for a fee of £47m and has since made 81 appearances, scoring 19 goals in that time. Whereas he scored 23 goals for Liverpool and 131 goals for Manchester City.
