Chelsea Player Ratings V Sheffield United: Three Players Get 4/10 While One Player Gets 7

Chelsea failed to capitalise on their win over Manchester United midweek with a disappointing draw at Bramall Lane on Sunday evening.

The Blues dominated the ball but they were not good enough defensively as they allowed Sheffield United to get back into the game on two occasions.

After the match, manager Mauricio Pochettino said his coaching staff would look at ways to make his team more solid at the back but they have only managed 5 clean sheets in 30 league games this season.

Goalkeeper and Defence

GK – Djordje Petrovic – 4/10 – beaten too easily at his near post for Jayden Bogle’s goal and wasn’t set for Oli McBurnie’s late equaliser either. He did make a couple of other good saves though.

RB – Axel Disasi – 6/10 – was solid defensively but didn’t offer much on the ball at right-back; certainly not in the same class as Malo Gusto.

CB – Thiago Silva – 6/10 – got on the scoresheet but he could have given away a goal just moments later after a sloppy pass.

CB – Trevoh Chalobah – 5/10 – got caught under the ball for McBurnie’s late goal. Not his best display in a Chelsea shirt.

LB – Marc Cucurella – 4/10 – didn’t cut out the through ball before Bogle’s goal and was booked late on in the game.

Midfield

CM – Moises Caicedo –  5/10 – another mixed bag from the Ecuadorian. He put in a brave block to deny Brereton-Diaz but failed to stop the through ball for Bogle’s goal.

CM – Enzo Fernandez – 6/10 – his passing was on point, and he created a good opportunity for Noni Madueke.

It is, however, concerning that Fernandez is unable to make a decisive impact on games, especially when we know the quality he possesses.

AM – Cole Palmer – 6/10 – never plays as well in the middle of the park, but he did provide the assist for Madueke’s goal.

Forwards

RW – Noni Madueke – 7/10 – the winger didn’t do an awful lot before scoring but he justified Pochettino’s selection with a sublime finish.

It was a surprise when the manager opted to take him off as he was continuing to offer a threat.

CF – Nicola Jackson – 5/10 – a typical display from the Senegalese international. Good in build-up play but failed to score when presented with a chance from Cucurella’s cross.

LW – Conor Gallagher – 6/10 –  created the first goal from the corner but did very little else apart from that.

Substitutes

Carney Chukwuemeka – 5/10 – didn’t make an impact after replacing Palmer for the final 20 minutes.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 5/10 – the Ukrainian was lively but he didn’t really offer anything in terms of a cutting edge up front.

Benoit Badiashile – 4/10 – got caught ball-watching as McBurnie scored the Blades’ equaliser.

Cesare Casadei – N/A
