Chelsea Player Ratings V Leicester: One Player Gets 8/10 But Three Others Get 4

Chelsea secured their passage through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup but they made hard work of it against Leicester on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues could have easily been out of sight in the first half but their fragile confidence was demonstrated by how poorly they reacted to Axel Disasi’s own goal after the interval.

They needed Callum Doyle’s red card to wrestle back control of the game and two late goals to set up a tie against Manchester City.

Press the next page as we give player ratings for Chelsea’s victory at the weekend.

Goalkeeper and Defence

GK – Robert Sanchez – 4/10 – it wasn’t a good decision from manager Mauricio Pochettino to start the Spaniard. He almost gave away a goal to Patson Daka and was poor when asked to claim crosses. Couldn’t do much with either of Leicester’s goals though.

RB – Malo Gusto – 6/10 – was a major threat down the right flank but he stood off Stephy Mavididi for Leicester’s second goal.

CB – Axel Disasi – 4/10 – his game will be remembered for an incredible 30-yard own goal. The Frenchman had been put under pressure by Daka but it was still a calamitous error.

CB – Trevoh Chalobah – 6/10 – did very little wrong despite Chelsea conceding twice. He is justifying his selection in the starting eleven.

LB – Marc Cucurella – 7/10 – considering it was only his second start since December, the Spaniard is already looking very sharp. Made a great late run into the box to score the opening goal. The fullback also made some good clearances.

Midfield

CM – Moises Caicedo – 7/10 – it was a solid display from the Ecuadorian international, who also produced an excellent through ball for Raheem Sterling who should have done a lot better with his finish.

CM – Conor Gallagher – 6/10 – the midfielder had to play in a deeper role due to Enzo Fernandez’s suspension. He was decent in the first half but his average technical ability became more apparent as the match went on, giving the ball away on a regular basis.

AM – Mykhailo Mudryk – 7/10 – made some good passes and was positive when given the chance to dribble on the ball.

Fans were upset when manager Mauricio Pochettino decided to substitute the Ukrainian and that shows you he is beginning to win people around. It is debatable whether he is best suited to the no.10 role but he does get more involved.

Forwards

RW – Cole Palmer – 8/10 – a goal and an assist, what more can you ask from the 21-year-old? His expert backheel for Carney Chukwuemeka’s goal was sublime.

CF – Nicolas Jackson – 7/10 –  it was a typical performance from the Senegalese international in that his build-up play was outstanding and his execution was erratic.

It was a superb run and cross for Cucurella’s opener, and he then won the free kick that led to Doyle’s red card. Jackson couldn’t cap off his performance with a goal as he fluffed his lines when he got his chance.

LW- Raheem Sterling – 4/10 – set up Palmer with a great cross, but he missed a penalty and a one-on-one opportunity in the first half.

Substitutes

Carney Chukwuemeka – 7/10 – played a great one-two with Palmer before scoring the all-important third goal.

Chukwuemeka has had a season ravaged by injury but he does possess a lot of talent and he will be looking to finish the campaign on a high note.

Noni Madueke – 7/10 – his fantastic solo goal sealed victory in injury time. The winger drifted past two Leicester players before curling the ball with his left foot into the top corner.

Ben Chilwell – N/A – came on for Cucurella in stoppage time so didn’t have time to make much of an impact. It was still good to see the fullback return from injury.
