Chelsea Player Ratings V Burnley: One Player Gets 9/10 While Five Others Get 5

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says his players need to be smarter and play with more desire after drawing against ten-man Burnley at the weekend.

The Blues boss says he was “upset and disappointed” with how his team performed as they drew 2-2 at Stamford Bridge.

It could have been even worse for the home side if Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez had put away his late chance from a corner. It leaves many fans questioning what direction the club is heading in under Pochettino’s management.

Goalkeeper and Defence

GK – Djordje Petrovic – 5/10 – made two great saves but should have saved Dara O’Shea’s second equaliser.

RB – Malo Gusto – 6/10 – some good movement in possession, making his customary forays forward, but he wasn’t always strong defensively.

CB – Axel Disasi – 6/10 – had a goal disallowed for handball and won a few headers.

CB – Benoit Badiashile – 5/10 – couldn’t be blamed for being a bit rusty after injury. He got under the flight of the ball before Lyle Foster had a header saved by Petrovic.

LB – Marc Cucurella – 5/10 – failed to make an impact going forward, and made very few interventions defensively. Pretty anonymous.

Midfield

CM – Moises Caicedo – 6/10 – worked hard and offered a lot of energy but you do feel that he has been limited by being asked to play as the no.6.

CM – Enzo Fernandez – 5/10 – the midfielder had one shot saved early on by Burnley keeper Arijanet Muric, and he looked bright with his passing in the first half.

However, jetlag clearly set in after the interval, and it was an odd decision by Pochettino to keep him on for the full 90 minutes.

AM – Conor Gallagher – 5/10 – other than creating a chance for Mudryk in the second half, he didn’t really get involved as much as he should for a no.10.

Forwards

RW – Cole Palmer – 9/10 – took his penalty well, and finished off his chance after an excellent pass from Raheem Sterling. He could have had an assist if Sterling had scored from a header too.

CF – Nicolas Jackson – 6/10 –  it was a typical performance from the striker. He did superbly well to set up a chance for himself in the first half before fluffing his lines.

Other than that, Jackson worked hard and did his best to bring others into the game with his build-up play.

LW- Mykhailo Mudryk – 8/10 – a very good performance from the Ukrainian who is playing with confidence. He provided the cross for Disasi’s goal which was disallowed. The winger also won the penalty for Chelsea’s opener, and he set up another chance for Jackson in the second half.

Substitutes

Noni Madueke 4/10 he struggled to mark players at corners, and it led to O’Shea’s equaliser.

Raheem Sterling – 7/10 – it was another one of those games from the 29-year-old who did some great things, whilst having moments to forget.

Sterling’s outstanding backheel set up Palmer for Chelsea’s second goal, but he also missed a gilt-edged chance to win the game late on with a header.

Alfie Gilchrist – N/A – came on for Gusto late in proceedings, with the Frenchman having picked up a hamstring injury.
