Paul Merson Predicts The Result As Chelsea Take On Everton

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson says he expects Chelsea to secure the three points when they face Everton on Monday night.

The Toffees have struggled to score goals this season and, writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Merson said that he can’t see Sean Dyche’s men troubling the Blues too much:

“Everton will go to Stamford Bridge and look to keep it tight, but I just can’t see them hurting Chelsea. Against Burnley, they got all three points, but the goal they scored was from a fortunate break, to say the least. Their cup final is next week when they face Nottingham Forest at home – that game could well define their season.”

“Everton have some nice fixtures and should be able to avoid the drop despite their points deduction. Sean Dyche deserves a lot of credit if he keeps them in the Premier League amid all the uncertainty around the club. Chelsea have been well below par this season, but I think they should get the job done at home.”

Merson has gone with a 2-0 win to Chelsea. Considering Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s less-than-stellar defensive record, the home side will be delighted if they do secure such a comfortable victory.

Chelsea’s record at Stamford Bridge this season

The team’s performances at home have been less than impressive over the course of the campaign. They have conceded 25 goals in 15 league matches, having lost to the likes of Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Brentford and Wolves.

The Blue’s last two results on their own patch include a scrappy draw against relegation-strugglers Burnley and a last-gasp win over Manchester United.

That form doesn’t give a lot of room for optimism but Merson seems to believe that Pochettino’s men will have enough to overcome Everton.
