Chelsea Fans Told To Give Liam Rosenior A Chance As Pep Guardiola Comparison Made

Chelsea fans have been told by a former Premier League footballer to give new manager Liam Rosenior a chance.

The Blues sacked Enzo Maresca and opted to replace him with Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior, who was already working under the same ownership group as Chelsea. The French club are the Blues’ sister team, and so the higher-ups at Chelsea were already very familiar with Rosenior.

However, following the appointment, many Chelsea fans have questioned the Englishman’s experience as a coach, as he has only managed Derby County on an interim basis, Hull City for a season in the Championship, and then Strasbourg in France.

In our fan poll, almost 43% of fans said their first choice to replace Maresca would have been Como manager Cesc Fabregas, with just around 17% saying that they wanted Rosenior in the role. Either way, the new Chelsea boss is now tasked with trying to build on Maresca’s Champions League qualification and take them back to title-winning form.

Chelsea fans told to give Rosenior a chance

Following the official appointment on Tuesday morning, former Premier League striker Jay Bothroyd has said that Blues fans need to give Rosenior a chance at Stamford Bridge, as he has made a comparison to Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

Bothroyd said on Sky Sports News: “Yes the job may have come a bit soon for Rosenior, but, he’s been given this opportunity, he’s going to relish it, he’s going to work hard every day to make the club title contenders.

“I like Rosenior, I think he’s a breath of fresh air, I think saying that he’s a yes man is doing his a huge disservice. Ultimately I think its a good appointment.

“Just because you don’t have huge success at the highest level, doesn’t mean you’re a bad manager. Guardiola, who’s arguably one of the best managers ever, he was in the Barcelona youth system, and then he came into Barcelona, and then he’s strove and got better and better.”

Wayne Rooney hails Rosenior as ‘an incredible coach’

Bothroyd isn’t the only person to think that Rosenior is a fantastic appointment by Chelsea, as Wayne Rooney, who has experience working with the new Blues boss, has called him ‘incredible’.

Rosenior was Rooney’s assistant coach when the former Man United striker was in charge at Derby County in the Championship, and he has spoken out about Rosenior, and how important he was at Pride Park.

He said on the BBC’s Wayne Rooney Show: “He’s taken chances, and hopefully that pays off because I think Liam is as good a coach as I’ve ever worked with. His detail, how he approaches the day-to-day, he’s as good as I’ve worked with.

“Liam was so important for me. He was incredible in his coaching ability. I was more of the manager and dealing with players and everything. So I learned a lot from him from that point of view and then I think he’s done a great job as a whole.”
