“I Hope To Be Soon” – Chelsea Star Sends Warning To Teammate As He Makes First Team Ambitions Clear

Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen says he is hoping to displace Robert Sanchez as first-choice “soon”.

Head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed last month that the Dane will be used in European fixtures and domestic cup ties, with Sanchez taking league games but, speaking to Flashscore, Jorgensen says he harbours ambitions of being the undisputed number one:

“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world. So I may not be first-choice goalkeeper right now, but I hope to be soon.”

Jorgensen may need to improve if he wants to realise that goal. His performances in the Conference League Playoff round against Servette were average at best.

However, Sanchez hasn’t been without his faults. His failure to keep out Mateo Kovacic’s long-range shot during the opening-day defeat to Manchester City has left question marks about his shot-stopping ability. There is potential to be a battle for the gloves throughout the course of this season.

Sanchez will start for Chelsea against Bournemouth

Jorgensen picked up a knock playing for Denmark Under 21s against the Czech Republic earlier this week. Although he was pictured back in training on Thursday, it would be a surprise if he was named in the starting eleven at the Vitality Stadium.

Sanchez is the one in possession of the jersey and he hasn’t done anything to suggest he will lose his position at this moment in time.

Jorgensen will soon get another chance to impress

The Blues will face Barrow in the third round of the Carabao Cup later this month, so the 22-year-old is expected to be included in the lineup for that match.

Following that fixture, Jorgensen’s next appearance will come in the Conference League when Maresca’s team face Belgian side Gent at the beginning of October.
